Hawai'i CC Campus Closure - Update Monday 10:52am 02/09/26

All Hawai'i CC campuses will reopen and resume operations and classes on Tuesday, February 10, following the statewide closure of state offices due to storm conditions.

Any additional updates shall be provided and posted at http://www.hawaii.edu/emergency or https://www.hawaii.hawaii.edu/security.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to sign up for mobile alerts through the UH RAVE Alert system to receive emergency notifications and important updates.

Kō Education Center

The Kō Education Center (KōEC), formerly called the North Hawai'i Education and Research Center, proudly provides access to quality educational opportunities and facilities for the North Hawai'i community. KōEC is located in Honoka'a 40 miles North of Hilo. KōEC is open Monday through Friday from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm.

College Credit Courses - College in Honoka'a

Hawai'i Community College credit courses are offered face-to-face and online. High school students are eligible to take college courses at KōEC through the Early College program. 

Lifelong Learning Courses

Non-credit courses are offered for personal development each semester.

Computer Lab

KōEC offers a computer lab available for use by students enrolled at any UH campus and for community members.

Facility Use

A conference room and classrooms of various sizes are available for UH and community use.

Test Proctoring

Proctoring is available for UH system and out-of-state students.

Heritage Center

The Heritage Center houses an archives & resource center, a changing exhibit gallery, and a long term exhibit gallery (coming soon!) for Hāmākua and North Hawaiʻi history.

From Hilo

On highway 19 (Mamalahoa Hwy), pass Tex's Drive Inn and the 43 mile marker. Make the next right turn onto Plumeria St. Go ½ a mile down the hill and take the first right after Hale Hoʻola Hāmākua. There will be a sign that says North Hawaiʻi Education & Research Center.

From Kona

On highway 19 (Mamalahoa Hwy), pass the 44 mile marker. Make the next left turn onto Plumeria St. into Honokaʻa. Go ½ a mile down the hill and take the first right after Hale Hoʻola Hāmākua. There will be a sign that says North Hawaiʻi Education & Research Center.
