PREREQUISITE: Modern-Jazz Dance I, or consent of Instructor.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is a continuation of, Modern-Jazz Dance I, in which the student will continue more in- depth work in technique, improvisation and composition. An end-of-the-semester performance will be required.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Knowledge to be gained:

1. Students will continue to be introduced to a wide range of dance styles through videotapes and in-class work.
2. Students will further their choreographic and performance skills through in-class projects and instruction.
3. Understand dance as a communicative art form, which is made-up of elements, which can be observed, described, analyzed and evaluated in verbal and written form.

Continuation of skills to be developed, from Modern-Jazz Dance I:

1. Constructive relaxation and rest patterns.
2. Centered body alignment and correct breathing patterns.
3. Increased balance, flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, efficiency and range of movement.
4. Increased concentration and muscle memory of locomotor steps/patterns, kinesthetic awareness and visual/aural perception.
5. Increased ability to recognize and execute rhythm, tempo, spatial, movement quality and level changes.

  Personal qualities continued to be developed.

1. Greater confidence and expressiveness.
2. Positive attitude towards self and ones expressive, moving body.
3. Cooperative spirit in working with others.

 EVALUATION:

1. Attendance/Attitude/Participation/Progress: 75%

(For every two classes missed, your attendance letter grade will drop one grade. Your attitude/participation/progress can shift your grade up or down one letter grade from your base attendance grade. No excused absences, except with physician's note. Make-ups to be explained later.

2. Final choreographic/movement project and final performance: 25%
