Resolution 2.9.07  Promotion

 

Whereas, The agreement between the University of Hawai‘i Professional Assembly and Board of Regents of the University of Hawai‘i determines, through collective bargaining, eligibility for promotion, application, review, and notification;

 

Whereas, The University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges provide the guidelines for tenure and promotion and faculty classification;

 

Whereas, The Hawai‘i Community College Staff Development Committee provides tenure and promotion workshops and handouts; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved That the Hawai‘i Community College Academic Senate recommends that any faculty member planning to apply for promotion

 

  1. Refer to the policies and procedures regarding promotion in the Agreement between the University of Hawai‘i Professional Assembly and the Board of Regents of the University of Hawai‘i;

 

  1. Follow the guidelines for preparing the promotion dossier provided in the “Guidelines for Tenure and Promotion University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges” and in the “University  of Hawai‘i Community Colleges Faculty Classification Plan”;

 

  1. Attend a workshop offered by the Hawai‘i Community College Staff Development Committee at least a year before the promotion application due date to receive additional guidelines and tips for preparing the dossier;

 

  1. Provide a clear and compelling argument for promotion in the content and presentation of the promotion dossier.

Note:  This document shall be submitted for publication in the Hawai‘i Community College Newsletter at the beginning of each fall semester by the Chair of the Faculty Policy Committee.  As well, it is the wish of the Faculty Policy Committee that this document be posted on the Hawai‘i Community College website by the Chair of the Academic Senate and be included in the revised faculty handbook.
