The Office of Continuing Education & Training (OCET) is the community-based, non-credit unit of Hawaiʻi Community College and presently offers a wide-range of training in Workforce and Professional Development, Cultural and Personal Enrichment, Youth Summer Programs, High School Summer Exploration. These classes are offered to the public on-site, online, and can be customized to for individual businesses.
OCET also oversees the Intensive English Program, the Apprenticeship Program and the federally-funded Rural Development Project (RDP) grant which focuses on addressing the ever-changing workplace demands for appropriately educated and work-ready employees.
New Online Registration for selected courses:
Agriculture Series - a weekly offering of classes that will help local gardeners and farmers grow their understanding of the natural world. Instructor, James Rushing will teach the science of agriculture in easy to understand terms. The classes have been specially designed as an introduction to agricultural sciences and are suitable for all experience levels. Classess offered in Hilo and Pahoa.
Natural Farming - Do you know what natural farming is? Have you heard about it, but not sure if its for you? These courses will teach you what natural farming is and why so many local farmers and gardeners are using this unique and sustainable system. Introduction to Natural Farming, Materials Production and Application, Chicken, and Swine Production courses available.
Business Plan Development Training for Farmers - This ten-week course is designed to teach local Big Island farmers how to succeed in the agriculture market, after harvest. Twice a week, for four hours a class, students will be exposed to all aspects and components of a comprehensive business plan. This business plan could be used to source business funding or just help the individual business owners organize their current business ventures. Classess offered in Hilo and Pahoa.
Building Trust Based Relationships - Learn the tools for building better work relationships. Learn how creating an environment of trust can start with you- are your behaviors building trust or busting it? Utilize "The Work Expectations Profile", open up trust-building conversations with others. Identify their own expectations and the impact they have on their work environment. Take responsibility for their own expectations. Apply the Expectations Profile to build trust with your manager and colleagues. Develop Action Plans to manage and communicate expectations to the people you work with.
